Word is the Word of the Year!

It might as well be, because nearly every other word has been chosen too!

Trauma is the Word of the Year! No, Truth is the Word of the Year! How about Trust, Rage, Moments, Listen or Nation? What about F*ck? Those are all good words as well. How are we ever going to pick? And what makes a word worthy of being The Word of the Year?

Who knew we even needed a word of the year? I certainly didn’t until I started seeing almost daily stories of what that important word might actually be. Is this trend happening in the larger world as well, or only in the microcosm of the Medium universe?

I’m afraid that if I read one of those stories, that I’ll have to then read all of them. Otherwise, how will I be able to make an unbiased decision around which one actually deserves to be The Word of the Year? Particularly if this trend continues for the rest of the month of December. I mean really, I’ve got kind of a full schedule here already, what with shopping and wrapping and making merry on top of my regular working and parenting and living, etc. If a new Word story comes out every day or so, for the next two weeks, will I have time to keep up? I don’t want to start something if I can’t finish it.

What do you think the Word of the Year should be? Give me the short version of why — because as I’ve already said, my reading time is limited here, but I’m not sure I can go into 2019 in good conscience if I haven’t at least attempted to determine what the right word to describe 2018 actually is.
