We live in a world where 1 in 6 women will be raped or suffer an attempt, not the one where men are lynched merely on an accusation. Actual false accusations are extremely rare. We live in a world where women who come forward that same night with bruises and torn clothing are still vilified, threatened, shunned and slut-shamed. We live in a world where women’s violent attacks are routinely swept under the rug, minimized, and disbelieved — even when there is ample evidence. We live in a world where even convicted rapists get little punishment. That’s why so many victims don’t ever come forward at all or only do so many years later.

An investigation would give us a better picture of what might or might not have actually happened. Other people were at that party that night. Other people saw her behavior change drastically in the days that followed. She told her husband and her therapist about the attack. His word and hers aren’t the only useful information.

I understand that based on what happened to you, you don’t like to imagine someone falsely accused. And unless you understand the other dynamics in place, as relates to trauma response and why victims often wait years to report, this might seem politically motivated. But no woman wants to be subjected to what she is currently experiencing. She and her family have had to move out of their home for their safety. This accusation was not made lightly or easily. It’s costing her a lot to make it. She deserves to have that bravery respected. Noone would invite the shit storm she is experiencing for the purpose of politics. Some other Republican favorite will get the slot if he doesn’t.

What’s the motivation for a false accusation? To show that Republicans will gladly put a man who abuses women in a position of power? We already know they will do that. We’ve got Trump and Roy Moore and a whole bunch of others already. She has nothing to gain and lots to lose — nothing to gain but the truth.

You said that you were fired without an investigation. Why shouldn’t this case warrant an investigation also?
