Very well said! I had been one of those trying to move away from using “guys” but now I’m rethinking.

I remember when the Star Trek franchise (and Battlestar Gallactica) started using “sir” for the way to address any senior officer, regardless of gender. I hated it at first but slowly came around to realize that giving everyone the respect of the word sir was infinitely preferable to than try to imbue ma’am with the respect that it just has never had. Would it be better if we had a gender-neutral term? Sure, but to try to invent one out of thin air would be contrived. So, I adapted my perception and thinking — which is what I’m doing today as well. Thanks!
