This is completely misguided. No-one would come forward and subject themselves to what these women are going through for political purposes. First of all, that doesn’t make any sense. If this candidate doesn’t get confirmed, another very similar one will be. It’s just not rational to say this is for political purposes, because the cost they are paying is vastly disproportionate to any potential gain and neither of them work for for the DNC.
Ford moved to the other side of the country to be as far away from Kavanaugh as possible. When she heard he was being considered for SCOTUS she considered moving to another country, but ultimately decided, at great personal sacrifice, to not participate in putting an abuser on the highest court in the land for life. Why is that so hard to understand? False accusations are exceedingly rare and are made by particular kinds of people under particular kinds of circumstances. Ford doesn’t meet any of this criteria, nor does the other woman. A third woman is rumored to be considering coming forward.
It’s Time to Dismantle the Myth of the False Accuser
We Need to Start Thinking Differently About Sexual Harassment and Assault
“But if a woman without any history of dramatic falsehoods says she went home with a man and, after they’d kissed a while consensually, he held her down and forced her into sex — in the absence of compelling evidence to the contrary, you can just assume it’s true. This is not because of any political dictum like “Believe women.” It’s because this story looks exactly like tens of thousands of date rapes that happen every year, and nothing at all like a false rape accusation.”
And the more we find out about Kavanaugh, the more it becomes clear that he was indeed deeply into a fraternity like culture in his exclusive all-boys prep school — one where women were treated as objects and prey. Google things about the Renate club and other things from his high school year book. It’s pretty disgusting.
