There is no one “correct” way to be a man (or a woman) and when society tries to impose that there is, you get the kinds of dire psychological stress that has been described in this OP that is harming men in particular.
In the dominance hierarchy of the social system called patriarchy, masculine traits are considered more desirable and that may need lead some women to artificially magnify them in themselves and to hide what are considered more feminine traits in order to attempt to rise in the hierarchy. But everyone is naturally a blend of strength, courage, independence, and assertiveness (M traits) and gentleness, empathy, sensitivity, caring, sweetness, compassion, and tolerance (F traits). Not allowing humans to be whatever blend of those they actually are is what creates problems.
