The difference between women selling sex at the Bunny Ranch and the casting couch is one is doing it voluntarily, whilst the other one doesn’t have much choice if she wants to work as an actress and not a sex worker (in a culture that allows for casting couches to be OK). This is a huge distinction.

And no, rape is not some kind of mating evolution and frequently has nothing to do with attractiveness, which is why there is no rape demographic. Little babies, old nuns and straight men all get raped. Rape has very little to do with sex and a whole lot to do with subjugation, which is why it’s still commonly used as a weapon of war and happens between straight men in prison.

Rape may be declining but when 1 in 6 women will be raped or have it attempted, and where there are few real repurcussions for even those convicted of that crime, that is a culture that still tolerates rape (in other words, a rape culture).
