Subjugation of women’s sexual freedom and autonomy is at the core of the patriarchy, which is why I always say that monogamy is a patriarchal construct — it was never even expected of men until very recent history. And it’s all fear-based; fear of the power that women’s sexuality has (burquas).

Of course, someone will counter that he needs to know which offspring are his, but until 5K years ago, that wasn’t the case. Lots of scholarship on that as well, but no time for citations at this moment, since I’m sure they will be demanded — but off the top of my head, Eisler’s seminal book, The Chalice and the Blade as well as her follow up, Sacred Pleasure are both scholarly treatments of this topic.

Thanks James for your comments and for weighing in.
