I’m sorry that happened to you. Particularly with such a basic, fact based sentence. It’s not like it was a novel idea or turn of phrase that had been appropriated— one can easily see how two publications might print nearly the same thing at about the same time. And I agree, due process is important, particularly when someone might lose their job as a result. No one should be painted with a broad brush.
As far as sexual harassment goes, there is a 2–10% false report rate, which is close to the false accusation rate of other serious crimes. But, historically women haven’t been believed much at all when they have tried to report misconduct. It’s been pooh-poohed as not such a big deal or dismissed out of hand as somehow being deserved or asked for. Clearly, we need to find some balance between these two extremes.
