I’m currently reading a book (The Wise Man’s Fear) where one of the races of people takes both nudity and sex very lightly. They think that singing is more inherently intimate and only sing to each other within families or love pairs. They believe that peoples who have sexual mores more like ours are barbarians.

It’s an interesting concept and brings up some questions that I think are worth asking. Dishonesty is absolutely wrong and will undermine any interpersonal relationship like nothing else, but what if you didn’t need to have dishonesty in order to figure out what you really wanted? What if we lived in a world that allowed for sexual and emotional exploration in a completely open and transparent way? It wouldn’t solve all problems — we are human beings after all, but I wonder how many problems it would improve?
