I hope we find a path to love and human understanding as well, but saying things like you have in your profile descriptor is not the way towards that. White priviledge is a demonstrable, actual thing. Young black men are something like five times as likely to be stopped, frisked, arrested, arraigned, and convicted for drug use even though they use drugs at a lower rate than young white men. And that’s just one example — there are dozens of others. Same goes for gender issues. I could start quoting you statistics, but we’d be here all day. Men and specifically white men do in fact create most of the problems related to inequality in our society. but that still doesn’t mean that you are guilty of anything in particular.

People who want to point out that fact are not attacking you directly, just because you fit into a particular demographic. It’s really time for men to separate out societal dynamics being called out from them being personally attacked. You can’t have true empathy if you can’t be vulnerable, and you can’t be vulnerable if you insist on being needlessly defensive. White men make up 30% of the population but hold nearly all the power in all areas of life in this country. That is a fact and it’s one that needs to change. Saying that is not attacking you specifically even though you are a white man. If you really want to contribute to a better world, and I honestly believe that you do, a more positive and less defensive profile description would be a great start.
