I cite pertinent articles that I’ve already written so that I don’t have to say the same damn thing all over again. In fact, a large percentage of what I’ve written has come out of having to say the same thing over and over again and being tired of it.

I’m also extremely tired of what I have to say being discounted simply because I am a woman with an opinion — which happens pretty much daily in on-line discussions. If I don’t have multiple citations (and even when I do) to support my point of view, I am frequently brushed off. This happens a lot to women on the internet and in real life. Remember the mansplaining article? Women get routinely told not just about the validity of what they have to say but about their own experiences, thoughts, feelings and area of expertise. When that stops happening, I’ll be more than happy to engage more directly.
