Great questions! It’s my belief (as someone who does this for a living) that having a neutral person with you on the journey for uncovering who you are is very beneficial. We can never get a perfectly clear view of ourselves, but attempting to do so only through our own lens means we have a much lower chance of seeing at least some. A trained facilitator can help by providing perspective, acting as a mirror, poking at subconscious belief systems, etc. This is why any life coach worth her salt will also be working with her own coach. No amount of professional expertise elicits the same level of insight and the results are nearly always greater than the sum of the two people involved.
