Enjoy the Campbell books and thanks for making note to including rich and well-rounded female characters in your fables. You are absolutely right that most of those traditional tales were written by men and reinforced ideas that were considered normative at the time. We do know a lot more now though about how what we digest as relates to characters informs our perception of the world around us and our own place in it.

I remember reading Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye as a young adult and having my own eyes opened to the concept of feeling not good enough because those who look and are like you are never depicted as valuable or beautiful.
