And therein lies part of the problem, Vienna De Vega; you had to change what you wanted to do in order to not feel uncomfortable in public. The other part of what you said also perfectly illustrates — these men were demanding your attention and because you were out in the world, they thought that you (or the other women they yelled at) owed that to them. It is interesting how this behavior is much worse in cities, but I guess it’s that dynamic I cited wherein groups of men tend to escalate the dynamic. Larger population density therefore amps up the desire to show other males in proximity that you fit well within the Man Box.
