And as I understand it, it was his wife’s cancer diagnosis that got him started on pills in the first place. His whole philosophy is such a house of cards but I don’t think any of this will change it because that would take emotional vulnerability, and you know, we can’t have that……

His big appeal is that he gives young men a place to deal with their feelings of confusion and insecurity, not by learning to really work with them, but by learning to externalize them — making everything the fault of feminists and SJWs and neo-Marxists (whatever that is?). That way, you don’t have to actually be self-responsible, but can just pretend that you are because you stood up straight and cleaned your room. He gives them a dragon to slay, which distracts from the actual hard work of meeting and integrating their own shadow — something that a Jungian ought to be better at.

Blaming American rehab for being too soft is just one of the many ironies of this story.
