A few months ago I started up an ezine called Sensual Enchantment that publishes erotic sci-fi, hot fantasy, sacred sexuality and the like. It’s been fun and I’ve gotten some awesome submissions but there have been a couple where it’s apparent the writer dashed something off in 15 minutes, didn’t reread or edit it, wasn’t paying attention to whether or not it was a cohesive story, etc. Fortunately, most of them are open to constructive editorial notes, but it’s been an exercise in clear and tactful communication.

No-one really likes to have critical feedback, but I value it when I get it from others because I’ve (for the most part) learned to get my ego out of the mix and see what is valuable in it. It’s definitely made me a better writer.
